Eyewear Fashion Spring-Summer 2016

Posted on Tuesday, January 19, 2016

In today’s article we will be talking through this season’s top trends in eyewear, from the vintage cat-eye to the retro round frames there is a design out there to suit every face shape! Eyewear became one of the top must have accessories in 2014 and 2015 with designers bringing out new and improved collections to match their catwalk fashion so now is the time to buy. Here are some of this year’s top picks:-

“Real” Tortoiseshell

By this I don’t literally mean real tortoiseshell, of course it’s acetate but the colour is very similar to the real thing unlike the darker tortoiseshell that has dominated the industry the past few years.

Our top pick of this category is the Marc by Marc Jacobs MJ655 in Colour LSH

With its soft rectangular design this frame is perfect to suit most face shapes and with a matt finish at the top it gives off a more subtle look.

The classic cat-eye

A trend that is always there, just reinvented each year. This year will see plenty of orange, red and yellow infused into eyewear giving the cat-eye a more vibrant yet sophisticated look. The cat-eye works well on any face shape, for a more rounded face try a slightly squarer version.

The Face A Face Bocca Tattoo 1 in colour 2115 is our top pick

Face A Face, Paris frame designers created the Bocca collection featuring tiny shoes on the tips of the sides, perfect for the more adventurous and quirky fashionista!

The two-tone

Last year having one colour on the front of spectacles and a brighter colour on the back was extremely popular. This year is the turn of the two-tone design, a darker colour at the top and a much lighter colour at the bottom of the frame. It’s a must have for gents this year!

The top pick is the Gucci GG1080 in colour OHQ

Its Wayfarer-esque and colour combinations give this frame a sophisticated edge, perfect for a day at the office and the fashion conscious man.

The round-eye

Forget the classic plastic round eye! This year’s designs feature metal bridges giving an almost futuristic look to this vintage style. A difficult style to wear so make sure you try lots on as believe it or not the round eyes come in varying shapes and sizes.

Our top pick had to be the William Morris Black Label BL026 in Colour 1

This quirky piece is designed for fashion as well as comfort with weighted tips on the sides it provides the perfect fit and balance so it will stay put all day long!

The floral

Due to progress in methods of manufacturing frames, in recent years we have seen the rise of the colourful frame. Spectacles used to be so boring and dull now we see beautiful frames with floral pattern designs making eyewear more fun and wearable.

Frame of choice here is the Gucci GG3699/N in Colour Z9X

Recognise that pattern anywhere? Princess Grace of Monaco had a scarf commissioned by Gucci with this exact pattern, years after they started producing copies. Believe it or not there is a real duplicate of that scarf in this frame, when the scarf is set in the mould it is then coated in a form of plastic called optyl to produce this stunning piece of eyewear.
